On Monday, February 6^th BST will be hosting our Literacy Open Morning between     9.00-10.20 am, when parents are invited to attend Literacy lessons taking place at school. This will give you an insight and understanding into how Literacy is taught in British Schools and also see approaches and strategies used in lessons at BST. By experiencing and participating in such lessons, we hope it will give you a better understanding of the learning process and thus enhance your own support at home with homework and in reading.

9-9.20: A brief introduction in the hall to outline how Literacy is taught, the programmes used and how lessons are delivered here at BST.

Foundation Stage have adopted a thematic approach: (Spring Theme Celebrations/Around the World) and use Jolly Phonics to teach letters and sounds.

Years 1-3, using Bravo and the Collins Primary Literacy programmes,  in their streaming groups – Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl, Julia Donaldson and Michael Murpurgo

9.20-10.20: Parents are invited to attend their child’s classroom to see Literacy lessons in action. Here you will see first-hand how lessons are structured, understand approaches used suited to various learning styles and experience differentiated activities. One of the key features of lessons in Years 1-3 will be on our talk/pair/share technique a key ingredient for discussions and developing good oral skills.

We hope these lessons will be very beneficial for you giving you an insight into how your child is progressing in class and the skills involved in developing successful learners in Literacy.
