Message from Adrian Macaulay - Term 3 2017/18

Dear Parents,

It is the end of a long but successful academic year and I would like to thank the whole BST community for their help and support. After the move to the Nord Anglia Education in December we have been working hard on the transition process to a group of 56 schools and over 50,000 students. Student visits to Switzerland, Poland, Germany and Slovakia are all being prepared for the next academic as well as accessing the collaboration with the Juilliard school, MIT and Unicef.

Over the summer break we will be creating new Year 2 classes, a Music room and new ICT suite for Sayram Campus and extra language classrooms and ICT suite in Kalandar campus. New playground equipment will be purchased for both campuses as well as a large supply of new books for the Library. From September children from Pre-Nursery to Year 2 will be accommodated in Sayram Campus until the completion of the new Secondary campus in 2019. Year 3 to Year 11 will be accommodated in Kalandar Campus.

We will be welcoming 25 new staff including 18 expatriate staff coming from the UK, Australia, Spain and South Africa to further enhance our staffing provision. Our curriculum provision has been enhanced with the appointment of a girls PE/Swimming teacher which will allow us to add swimming to the PE curriculum. We will also be offering French and Korean to the language curriculum from Year 5 upwards and Computer Science up to (I)GCSE level.

We will be sad to say goodbye to a number of staff who are leaving BST for new challenges, but I would like to thank them all for their contribution to the school, and we wish them well for the future.

Mrs Janine Campbell
Mrs Sitora Khotamova
Mr Matt Blake
Mr Nathan Jeffers
Ms Lesley Pinault
Miss Anne Duncan
Mr Felix Ortiz
Mr Ben Ramsdale
Miss Fiona Hutchison
Mr Ricky Cole
Mr Paul Appleby
Miss Rachel Teague
Miss Amy Armstrong
Ms Diana Negmatova

I would like to make a special mention for Mrs Sitora who has been at the school since its opening. She has been an outstanding practitioner and someone we have grown to trust and respect. As one of our first UK qualified local teachers, she has been a role model for all.

I would like to thank all parents who completed the Parents Satisfaction Survey and it was pleasing to see the many positive comments about the school. However areas of concern were highlighted and I would like to share with you some of the actions that we will be putting in place to address these concerns.

Extra Curricular Clubs
We will be expanding our clubs programme to include outside providers to enrich our Clubs provision. We trialled this year Chess, Martial Arts and Dance and we will now be expanding this programme to give parents and children the opportunity to try more activities. We will also continue to offer clubs run by BST staff. We will also be trialling Adult English language lessons.

We will be organising trips in collaboration with Nord Anglia Education to Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia and Germany in 2018/19. Year 4-6 will also be accessing residential trips within Uzbekistan, and all Primary classes will have termly day visits within Tashkent.

Individual Pupil Support
We will be employing EAL Teacher Assistants to develop support strategies within the classroom and extraction groups to develop language skills within BST. Individualised Education Plans (IEP) will be in place for selected students.

School Communication Outside of Educational Issues
I will be inviting selected parents with academic and administrative staff to create a Working group to discuss improving parental communication. Staff will also be contacting parents more frequently on sharing and celebrating successes

School Lunches
Mr Cardall and Mr Walker will be meeting student groups and School council to discuss menus, food quality and variety. We will also be inviting parents in to sample lunches with selected year groups in 2018/19.

I would like to sincerely thank you for the help and support this year, and I would like to wish you and your family a safe and restful holiday. I look forward to see you in September.

Best wishes
Adrian Macaulay
